Service Engineer only involved in the service and replacement of Parts in boilers and external heating controls. The engineer does not add a new fused spur or additional sockets.

• Requires Component Exchange (Core Competence)
• May take level C if involved in the replacement of sockets, spurs or was to cut a new spur or socket into an existing ring circuit.

Installation engineer involved in the installation of heating systems. The Engineer only adds a new socket or spur to an existing ring circuit.

• Requires Component Exchange (Core Competence) + Central heating wiring installation + power level C

Installation engineer involved in the installation of heating systems. The Engineer only adds a new socket or spur to an existing ring circuit, the engineer is able to run a single circuit to the consumer for immersion heater, electric shower, (some power showers may run of the lighting circuit see below. Requires Component Exchange (Core Competence) + Central heating wiring installation + power level C + power Level B


An Engineer who in addition to above may also install or add a lighting circuit level B or C would allow a connection to an existing circuit or to run a single circuit back to a consumer unit e.g. to run a light in a loft. Add Lighting Level B and C (this is offered as combined B and C.

Level A Full scope category allowing a holder to carry out complete domestic electrical work
Level B Limited defined scope which allows installers to add new single circuits back to the consumer unit for either lighting or power dependant upon the assessments they have passed.
Level C Limited defined scope which allows installers to add additional outlets to an existing heating controls or power or lighting this level also applies to component exchange. dependant upon the assessments they have passed.
