Background

This regulated QCF qualification is for learners that wish to demonstrate their knowledge in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Condition Reporting of electrical installation systems in the UK. It is based primarily on BS7671:2008 (Amendment 1: 2011) 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and IET Guidance Note 3

This qualification can also provide a progression route from the LCL Level 3 Award in Initial Verification and Certification of electrical installations (QCF)

Learner outcomes

The objective of this QCF qualification is for learners to demonstrate they know and understand:

  • To Understand the requirements for completing the safe isolation of electrical circuits and installations
  • Understand the requirements for inspecting
  • Testing and recording the condition of electrical installations
  • The requirements for completing the Periodic Inspection of electrical installations
  • The difference between Periodic Inspection and Initial Verification
  • The requirements for the safe testing of electrical installations which have been placed in service
  • Understanding the requirements for testing before circuits are energised
  • Testing energised installations and interpret test results
  • The completion of electrical installation condition reports and associated documentation and to be able to confirm safety of systems and equipment prior to completion of inspection, testing and commissioning
  • Be able to carry out inspection of electrical installations prior to them being placed into service
  • Finally Produce a Condition Report with recording Observations and Classifications

Pre-requisites

There are no formal pre-requisites to this qualification but it is recommended that candidates should have suitable knowledge of electrical theory and ideally be working within the electrical or a related industry.
