SVQ in Health and Safety Management Level 4

 

What is an SVQ in Health and Safety Management?

 

The Scottish vocational qualification  (SVQ) is a nationally recognised formal qualification based on the Occupational Safety and Health Practice National Standards and carries the same currency as NEBOSH diploma part 2.

 

These standards were developed by the Occupational Safety and Health body, an independent group of professionals representing the Confederation of British Industry, the Trade Union Congress, the Health and Safety Executive and the Department of Education and Employment.

 

What types of manager is the VQ relevant to?

 

The SVQ is designed for managers who have experience in and are responsible for health and safety issues.

 

The SVQ in Health and Safety management at level 4 is for you if you

  • Are a health and safety practitioner

  • Work with other managers

  • Identify health and safety hazards

  • Carry out risk assessment

  • Determine health and safety control strategies

  • Have no formal health and safety qualification

To gain the qualification, managers have to prove that they apply the standards in their workplace by

  • Consistently performing to the standard described

  • Providing evidence of performance from the workplace

  • Demonstrating that they know and understand the implications of health and safety issues
